The National Arthritis
Foundation (NAF), registered as a charitable
body in 1984, is the largest public organization
in Singapore devoted to the three-fold aim of
helping arthritis sufferers, educating patients
and the public on arthritis and supporting arthritis
research. NAF functions as a coordinating and
management body, working jointly with pharmaceutical
organizations and arthritis specialists to achieve
these goals.
The
patron for the NAF is Dr Wee Kim Wee and its
new Chairman is Prof Feng Pao Hsii. The goals
of the NAF are:

Public and patient education
Initiatives include dissemination of patient
education pamphlets and newsletter as well as
regular public forums,
• Patient welfare
Financial subsidies to needy patients for
medical and surgical treatments
• Encouraging research in arthritis

The
NAF has an estimated 1000 members from all walks
of life, including people with arthritis, caregivers,
and concerned members of the public and health
professionals. An elected general council and
executive committee oversee the work of the
foundation.
The NAF has three other volunteer support groups
under its belt. They include:

The Singapore Ankylosing Spondylitis
Club (SASC)
A support group for patients with Ankylosing
Spondylitis, formed in 1990 under the umbrella
of the NAF
• The Juvenile Arthritis Club
(JAC)
A support group for children with arthritis,
formed in Nov 1998, under the umbrella of the
NAF
• The Juvenile Lupus Club (JLC)
A support group for children with Lupus, formed
in Mar 2002 under the umbrella of the NAF
The
foundation relies largely on subscriptions,
donations and fund raising activities to finance
its activities.
